Monetising a Web Site

Britishbattles.com is by far and way the most looked at web site that Chalfont Web Design manages often exceeding 6,000 visitors a day. Through the brilliant research and write up, the creator / author has created an absorbing web site with unique content on the web site.

As the site is a labour of love rather than pure profit, Chalfont Web Design was tasked with generating a small income for the author without being too intrusive and maybe adding quality to the web site.

The standard response is to put Google Adsense on the web site - which works to an extent. As a top up, we have created deep links to Amazon books, and Art.com and Easyart.com - both of whom have relevant battle pictures for sale. This latter genre has been particularly effective and we have now rolled out a dedicated 'gallery' promoting these affiliate art links including new sections which will be developed further in the future.

Actinic Ecommerce to Sage Line 50

Once an ecommerce system has become successful, the next issue is to monitor stock and link in to an appropriate business / financial accounting system.

Actinic used to link to both Sage Line 50 and Quickbooks - but the support for Quickbooks has ceased. We are now looking at implementing a solution for Cater For You and Cater For Trade that links the ecommerce to Sage Line 50. We are also setting up Sage Line 50 for use as the primary business system.

The primary issue for the normal Sage Line 50 / Actinic link is that different stock units are used on each system. Fortunately, Actinic uses Mircosoft Access as its core database so we can live link through a third party developed database.

We are currently undertaking this project with Actinic V9 and Sage Line 50 and will update on the progress as it happens.
