Its been extremely busy since we last posted in January. The most recent customer win is for Warner Meats in Chalfont St Giles who we’ve posted a quick holding page for and are currently busy working on an Actinic Ecommerce web site ready for the bar-b-q season.
Happy New Year to all of my readers. I trust you had a good break over the festive period and that business has been good for the first week of trading.
We have been exceptionally busy in the last few weeks finishing web sites and meeting new and existing customers to talk about their plans for 2011.
As soon as we have launched them, we will post on our blog straight away.
Chalfont Web Design currently uses Fasthosts as its default web hosting provider. The good news for some of our clients is that they are upgrading their control panel and domain name management services in early 2011. This will be useful for all our blogger customers so we can use cname to update the location of the blog after blogger suspended the publish to web site via FTP earlier this year (hence for example this blog being on a blogspot domain name).
One of the best features of Actinic V10 is the ability to convert the extended information page to a single product per page with add to cart button – it was previously (V7 and before) just a pop up box for a larger image and some detail.
We’ve hit the ground running this year already, with several large tranches of work undertaked on behalf of clients. The most interesting is possibly the work for the Livcom Awards where they launched their 2010 registration documents in a number of languages.
We have also uploaded a number of new air compressors to the J & J Pneumatics web site.
We’ve been working on lots of small and bigger projects in the last few weeks. A couple of Actinic sites still under development and the odd amendment here and there.
A few bits of work we have undertaken recently includes:
- A new American Civil War section in the gallery at BritishBattles.com
- New products on Cater For You – greaseproof paper, baquet roll, piping bags and other – we have taken the photos and uploaded
- Kay Why Marketing – new look and design upgrade from the site launched earlier in the year featuring more flash and other interesting items
We were looking forward to a relaxing break between Christmas and New Year – but of course we’ll be updating the VAT on our ecommerce web sites!
Once an ecommerce system has become successful, the next issue is to monitor stock and link in to an appropriate business / financial accounting system.
Actinic used to link to both Sage Line 50 and Quickbooks – but the support for Quickbooks has ceased. We are now looking at implementing a solution for Cater For You and Cater For Trade that links the ecommerce to Sage Line 50. We are also setting up Sage Line 50 for use as the primary business system.
The primary issue for the normal Sage Line 50 / Actinic link is that different stock units are used on each system. Fortunately, Actinic uses Mircosoft Access as its core database so we can live link through a third party developed database.
We are currently undertaking this project with Actinic V9 and Sage Line 50 and will update on the progress as it happens.
