Chalfont Web Design News - Summer 2005
Welcome to Chalfont Web Design Summer news - the last three months has been very busy and interesting with plenty of developments to report including an update on the quality of Google results!!

Kind regards,
Andy

New / Upgraded Web Sites

I've been particularly busy in 2005 since my last newsletter in February with working on existing customer web sites and adding a few new sites:

As always I have a number of upcoming web sites that I will be able to tell you about next time.  For the latest news keep checking my blog at www.watsy.com/weblog/

In the January newsletter I was extolling the benefits of putting up a blog on your web site.  Mareeba launched their blog earlier this month with some excellent results already.    Blogger

If you would like to know more about the benefits or what it is all about then please contact me.  I charge £150 for putting this on your site.

Directory Links Campaign

As you will know being a customer of mine, there are two key areas for helping your web site become more prominent in the search engines:

  1. internal design and optimised for the search engine robots
  2. external optimisation - links in to your web site

As part of my normal design package I undertake point i. and an element of ii.  However, I am now offering a more complete package for ii. at a total cost of £600.  This includes registration across a number of directories which cost money to be included in.

I have undertaken this campaign on behalf of another client - Micronics - who said "Some positive feedback the level of enquiries from the site has increased during the last 3 months, significantly up on the previous 3 months and 48% up on the same period last year. Also Feb and Apr recorded the highest level of monthly enquiries, 43% up on the previous high. Looks like the investment over the last 4 months is paying off"

I undertake the campaign by hand, ie I manually visit each web directory and enter your web site details - this is a fairly lengthy and laborious process.  Automated submissions do not work as well (if at all).

Search Engine News!

I have lamented for a good while now about Google penalising brand new sites for at least a year.  This was certainly the case until very recently - however, there is a glimmer of hope.  I have noticed that a couple of my newer web sites were receiving fairly good listings before Yahoo and MSN which has been very unusual - so maybe the corner is being turned.

Google has launched an interesting interactive maps feature to rival streetmap and multimap - I have now converted over to it as I find it more user friendly.    Google Maps

Google has also launched Google Local which looks like it is taking the data from Yell - and is in my opinion currently awful!  It looks very out of date. For example, those of you who remember me when I was trading as Hive Solutions - it still lists as that and Chalfont Web Design is nowhere to be seen!

Microsoft AntiSpyware Product

Not quite search engine news but of interest.  It appears that Microsoft has realised there is a lot of spyware out there - ironically caused in the main by Internet Explorer and its known vulnerabilities.   Microsoft Windows AntiSpyware (Beta)

It is currently in Beta 1 stage at the moment - I am running it on my machine, but nothing seems to be happening - either I'm completely immune to spyware from my firewall or its is not very effective.  Click on the logo for more information - it is free!
